4th Year Consumption

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo my dear readers!

I'm still alive if you were wondering. As you might guess, 4th year it taking a big toll on my blogging life. However, because it's Christmas, I'm taking the next week off all college work while I'm at home. I still have a mountain of work to do but I deserve some time off to relax. And to blog!

What have I been up to lately? Well over the last few weeks, I've been playing a lot of League of Legends. I just leveled up to level 22. I have been practicing with some new characters and trying difference builds and strategies. Some of the characters I've been playing as are Teemo, Nasus, Heimerdinger, Master Yi, Ashe, Lulu, Morgana, Ryze and Lux. I finally got to the skill level whereby I can play with practically any character without being terrible. The first time I played as Lulu, I killed everyone :D I'm saving up to buy her because she's so cute and deadly. Like my Teemo ^_^

I Like Playing With Fairies

I've also put  about 100 hours into the new Pokémon game - Pokémon X. I was looking forward to that game so much but it was such a huge let down... I've loved all the Pokémon games up til now and you all know how dear Pokémon is to be. But wow. I was not at all impressed with that game! What I did like about the game was that Pokémon were FINALLY in 3D. That was some small comfort...

To bring up the mood, let's talk about ARTPOP. As I'm sure you all know, ARTPOP is Lady Gaga's new album. I must say, I'm not disappointed. I was kind of expecting to be... not exactly sure why... but that was how I felt. But, that's in the past! On my initial play-through of the album, I knew that I would grow to love specific songs. Nothing stood out initially, except Aura and Venus, both of which I still love now. And now that I have a great grasp of the songs, I must say that Gypsy and Venus are my top two songs, with Aura being 3rd and G.U.Y. next. I do love all the songs though, except for Jewels 'n' Drugs. What an abomination!! I don't understand why it's on the album... :O I skip it every time it comes on :P

Day of The Doctor!! :D
I was very excited to see the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who. You have no idea! While the special itself was fantastic, I must say that I found parts to be very predictable. Not so much so that they ruined the episode or anything. It was more "OH MY GOD I KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO DO AND IT'S GENIUS". I was very very impressed. I could not wait for the Christmas Special on Christmas Day... however I thought it was a bit crap! XD

Remember how I bought the first two Game of Thrones books last summer in England? Well I finally started reading the books! I'm actually sooooo bad at reading books. I started the Saturday on my way to Paris (more about that below). I'm so glad I started reading it though, it's so good! It did take me a while to grasp all the characters but when I did, it became much easier to read. I haven't seen the TV show at all yet. But I'll get there when I have the first book read. Anyone I ask says to do what they did (whether it's read the book or watch the TV show) but I've not met anyone who has done both... so I'm going to be the first of my friends to do so.

On a side note, my brother didn't know what to get me for Christmas so I was like,
"Em... Let's go to Easons and get Game of Thrones in the 3 for 2 sale."
So he did. And now I have 5 books :D

So, Paris. In August, my boyfriend and I decided to go to Paris for Christmas. On Saturday the 14th, we set off to Paris for four days. It was soooo tiring but so much fun. It was a very cheap holiday yet we got to see so much. On Saturday, we visited the Arc de Triomphe as it was on the route to our hotel. We got to travel to the top for free because we are under 26. Thumbs up for free visits for under 26s! Afterwards, we spend a few hours walking from the Champs-Élysées towards our hotel. So many crepes and churros were devoured! We finished off the night with two hours of The Simpsons... IN FRENCH! It was the episode where they went on holiday to England and Homer rear-ended the Queen.

Je vous le dis! Je suis anglaise!

Arc de Triomphe!!

Sunday, we went to the Catacombes. They are a system of underground tunnels which hold over 6 million skeletons. That only cost €4 because of our age. It was well worth the €4... It was so creepy yet thrilling to see so many skulls, femurs and hip bones. Later in the day, we went sightseeing and saw the Notre Dame and the Moulin Rouge. The night ended with a bang as we met with another couple who we knew were going to be in Paris the same time as us. Ice skating in front of the Eiffel Tower is something I can now cross off my bucket list ;)

Such Romance!

Monday was by far the best day (save for the ice skating). Best time to visit The Louvre? 9 o'clock in the morning! Within fifteen minutes of getting in the door (without standing in a long queue) and paying no entry (because under 26 :P), we saw the Mona Lisa. I never realised it was so small! Two hours later, we left having visited the Venus de Milo and the Egyptian exhibits also. And not to mention, the Lady Gaga exhibit we stumbled upon! Yes, I kid you not, Gaga is in the Louvre!

Smiling or Frowning?

Lady Gaga!

Next, we decided to go up the Notre Dame. What an amazing building! Another tourist attraction that cost nothing. Following that was a trip to the Sacré Coeur. Another amazing building. But the climax of the entire trip was the Eiffel Tower. Despite having to pay to visit the summit, it was the best of all! From queuing up to getting to the top, it took only 15 minutes as we booked our tickets in advance. That was some efficient planning right there! You'd think visiting the Eiffel Tower was overrated... but my god... it was not. What's even better was we were there for sunset ^_^ How romantic!

The night ended with a quick trip to see the tunnel where Princess Diana died... and a screening of Inception... in French. Perhaps the strangest part of our entire holiday!

And that pretty much ended our trip. Tuesday was spend travelling back to Ireland... nothing very exciting. Well... at least until Saturday the 21st! My boyfriend and I went to see Wicked! in Dublin that night. I bought him tickets for his birthday. It is by far his favourite show but I had not seen it before. I was actually blown away by it... the singing was spectacular... the acting was perfect... the costumes were amazing. And the story... mind-blowing! Even though I figured some things out before they happened ;) But wow... I can see why he has gone to see it multiple times!!

...and that pretty much sums up my life over the last two months. College fills in all the empty spaces between LOL, Pokémon, Gaga, Paris and Wicked!.

I'll try my best to bring another post before the new year!

Merry Christmas!!

Blogging 101

The title of this piece came to me as I opened this blank post. However, I will not be speaking about the basics of blogging. Because anyone who knows me should realise that I have no idea what I am doing. If you must know, this is my 101st blog post. Hence the silly title. Moving on...

What I will share with you all over the next few posts will be some poems that I wrote... about 4 years ago during my Leaving Cert year. The very first one I wrote - Reality - is so darn cringe that I won't even plague you with it. Instead I'm going to start off with a piece I called, 'Lifeless'.

Lifeless
The dim glow fades
as the night draws to a close.
Weaker than before, it remains silent.

The cinders quench, the ashes
lay beneath the grating, out of view
until the master notices next morning.

Shocked to see the lifeless place, he cries,
“It might be different if I paid attention”.
Forever cold.

What was my inspiration for this? As far as I remember, I wrote this about my great-grandaunt, Josie. She passed away In 2008 just before I started my Junior Cert exams. At the time, I heard she wasn't well but even though I was 15 at the time, I was still rather oblivious to this thing people called 'death'. Mostly because she was the first person in my family who I knew rather well who died.

I'm not sure why I decided I wanted to post these poems I wrote. I guess perhaps because part of me wanted to share these feelings. 4 years ago, I didn't have friends.. Well, I did. But nothing like the friends I have now. But that was my fault, not theirs. I've grown up a lot since then. And now I have people with whom I can share these things that once upon a time wouldn't have ever been seen by anybody else.

Anyway, I don't want to bog you down. But I do hope that you'll enjoy these pieces I wrote. Some I am quite happy with. Some (like Reality) are just plain cringe.

The Big One Zero Zero

Howdy all! Here I am again for another milestone - this is my 100th blog post :D And what is this post gonna be about? The future. Or at least what I'd hope to do in the future. Let me start with a message I received lately. I received this reply in response to a Facebook post about the Blog Awards Ireland. My blog post LGBTQ Pride was nominated for Best Blog Post, and you can vote here. Please do vote! I'd really appreciate it. Anyway, here's the message I received. It was from a woman I've known since primary school; my friend's mom.

Ciarán Ó Bioráin. Now that I've got that out of the way... I've heard you going on about LGBTQ but like most things it was a little over my head. But when you sent a request to vote for your blog page I'm one of those who read before signing... It's the first time that I actually read it (well most of it anyway). You are a brilliant young fellow (but then you knew that) and I've always had a soft spot for you (like an extra mammy) since NS when you didn't torment me lol. You are so right in not hiding.. what good is it.. it only brings suspicion and whispers. I've watched our parish change so much from the time when I was in school to now.  I have to say thank God the oldies are gone. They hid behind the doors and whispered and made everyone's lives hell all because they wanted to be the first with the gossip uncaring of how other peoples' lives were affected. Keep that blog going it looks and sounds well. And I hope you win.

Oh I forgot, I voted twice for you ha ha

I thought that deserved to be published because it was one of the nicest messages I've received in a good long time. And this is why I write... I write to talk to people. I write to share my feelings with you. I write so that you might be inspired. I write because I love it :)

Anyway, for the main body of my post. Where would I like to see myself in the coming years? Well let's start from now... I'm moving to Cork tomorrow; back to college! Starting my final year on the 16th. I can't believe it's been 3 years since I started college... that's just CRAY. This year I have an FYP (final year project) and have no idea what topic to study. But I'm kind of looking forward to it. I'm really looking forward to getting back into a routine and studying... I also have my council secretary role to look forward to. It's nothing spectacular but it's another thing to buff the CV ;) But now let's go further...

When I finish my exams next May, I'm hoping that by then I'll already have a graduate position as an trainee actuary under my belt. And on top of that, I'd hope that I can get a placement next summer for 12 weeks (or so) in a different country; just for the experience. I'll soon start looking for graduate opportunities to start building on that dream. As for where I'd like to work? Well Cork would be ideal... close to home, close to friends.. but realistically, I'll be looking at Dublin for my job. Who knows? I might even check England! That'd be very cool...

So that sets up my next 3 to 4 years work-wise... if I'm lucky. But what else? I'd like to have my own apartment of course; a place I can call home. Yet, I will try to keep my expenses low and save my money. I'll be putting a lot of my money away for bigger expenses such as building a house and raising children. Of course, those are huge expenses but it's always good to have a nice starting fund.

In the coming years I'd love to travel... either on holidays to places I haven't been, or working abroad. Both would be fun! I've always wanted to see the world. And yes, that would be another expense... Something I'll need that saved money for ;)

I'm hoping that this year will see the start of my new exercising regime. A regime that I will try to keep up during the year and carry on for years after. I'm not a terribly unfit person, but a bit of exercise wouldn't go astray. Especially since I have a free gym to use in Cork. It's going to be hard work to make myself go but it will be so rewarding :)

Where will my blog be? I'm hoping in the next few years that I'll have many more posts, many more views and many more followers... I can't really think of what else I'd like in the next few years. I'm sure there's more I should mention but that's all that comes to mind. But before I go, I have two things to show you :D

The 3 Egyptian God Cards

Espeon and Umbreon

The first picture is one I owe you... I meant to show you that pic in my 21 Years of Procrastination and Awesomeness - Part 2 post but my camera was temporarily without a memory card. But wow... aren't they something else? I got them off Santa one Christmas :D And they're in perfect condition. As for the second photo, I got these lovely little guys on the internet. I decided to treat myself. Aren't they cute?

Now, it's time for me to hit the hay. Long day tomorrow!! Goodnight all :D

The Nuzlocke To End All Nuzlockes

Well howdy! I know what you must be thinking, "Jeez it's been almost a year since this guy told us about his Nuzlocke Challenge in Pokémon FireRed". And you would be correct, it's almost been a full year...

Now the last time I was talk to you about my Nuzlocke Challenge was here. So have a brush up on what's been going on if you can't remember (I know I certainly forgot!).

I have some very awful news! I got a new phone... which means I lost all my Nuzlocke data :'( So that's the end of that. There will be no more posts regarding my FireRed Nuzlocke. This will be the final one. To continue with the bad news, I dont have any new screenshots for you to look at either. To be honest, I didn't get very much more done in that file before I got my new phone. Here's all that happened:

--- Cynder evolved into Charizard and became AWESOME
--- Penny (Gloom) started to annoy me having only grass moves
--- Sonic, my lovely Golbat, took a massive hit from a Koffing and died
--- I caught Tentacool to replace Sonic, and started slowly training it up

And that was it, the uninteresting, bitter end to my challenge...

I feel really bad that it had to end like that because I really liked writing those posts. I do love to go back and read them, plus the photos make it so much more fun!

What will I do next you ask? Well at the moment, I'm working on my Eeveeloution party. I've become so obsessed with egging... my worst fear will be my Espeon because not only do I want an egg move and good IVs, I also want Espeon's hidden ability - Magic Bounce. That's gonna really make the egging difficult. And yes, I do have an Eevee from Dream World :D Took me a while to get it but I did, and it's female ^_^

As you probably know, it's just over 2 months until Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are released. Now while I love the new things like Pokémon and attacks and abilities etc, one thing I'm looking forward to are the new training mechanics (because I'm a geek like that). So far I haven't heard of much except that there's supposed to be a new way to raise your pokémons' EVs outside of battle. It sounds interesting!

And to finish of this post, I've one last thing to say. You'll notice that this is my 99th blog post. Meaning my next one is number 100! Yes, I know... I had 82 posts last year and only 17 this year so far... I feel bad that I haven't written more but maybe when college starts back and I focus, I can set time aside each week to write. As for what I'll write about next time... I'm still working on it. But I hope that you'll all enjoy it :D

Elite Bibi's New Twitter

Hey everyone! As you can guess from the title of this post, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret...

I've made a new Twitter account for my blog. So if you give it a follow you can get all the updates about new posts, but you'll also get access to new pics and tweets.

So here you go...

I'd be very grateful for a follow :)

Now that that's out of the way, how about something else? Remember I was telling you about my summertime plans? Here's what I've been up to. I watched

How I Met Your Mother, all 8 seasons
Doctor Who, seasons 4-7
Torchwood, all 4 seasons
Firefly
Digimon, season 3
Yu-gi-oh, season 1
Adventure Time, season 1

As we speak, I'm watching Arrow. Yeah... that's a lot of TV. But I have been doing other things too. I started making a rug. It's a great thing to do while watching these shows. I almost have half of it done. There are 6688 stitches in 88 rows... it's a long process but once I finish, I'll have a nice new wall-hanging :D Another big project I took on over the summer was cleaning out my bedroom. Yes, it was a huge project... But I succeeded. I know by the sound of it, I've done nothing with my summer... Well, I've done plenty really but however much of that was really constructive is debatable.

Oh did I tell you I was in Dublin on Monday? I went on a Foróige trip with young people from Kilmallock. Yes, I am a volunteer, and have been for almost 3 years. We went to Dublin Zoo for the day; it was fantastic :D Unfortunately, I won't get to work with Foróige much next year on account of my final year in college. I must start organising stuff for next year; accommodation and the like. Well, I have my house reserved, just need to sort some final details. I'm looking forward to moving in with Lisa and Lucy ^_^

I thought about something over the last few weeks which I might actually do... I decided to write a letter/essay about where I would like to be in the next three years. Some personal stuff got in the way of me writing it earlier but now I think I'll finally do it. It'll be cool to look back and see whether or not I achieved what I wanted.

Now it's time to go to the kitchen and check on the cats... Our little ginger kitty probably needs some attention ^_^ Talk soon!

21 Years of Procrastination and Awesomeness - Part 2

I'm back again! If you're reading this but haven't read part 1, you can find it here. Now, it's time to continue with the last ten items on the list :D

12. Books
With TV and the internet, I very rarely hear about people reading books anymore. I have a few friends that keep up with their reading alright. As for me... I'm a bad reader. I'm very slow and find it hard to put the time aside to read. Which is partly why I didn't want to put books on this list. However, when I do get the time to read, I love it. As I mentioned in the last post, I read the Harry Potter books before they were movies. Another series I read was A Series Of Unfortunate Events. My mom bought me the set of eight for Christmas one year but forgot to give them to me... so I didn't get them til a few months after that. But once I got into them, I had them read very quickly. And I bought books 9 to 13 then as they came out. I enjoyed them so much and they're still here on my shelf. The latest book I started reading is the A Game of Thrones, which is the first book in the Game of Thrones series. All of my friends are mad about the TV show (which I've not watched yet) but I've decided to read the books before watching the show. Call me crazy or whatever but I needed some motivation to get back into reading.

13. Nostalgia
Bit of an.. obscure one as it's not really a 'thing'. But I love keeping and collecting things that remind me of the past. I have this box in my bedroom filled with things like concert tickets, wristbands, letters and stuff like that. Sentimental things and the like. I suppose this relates to my love for photography. I have thrown some things out of the box but usually anything I throw out is because it's tainted somehow. Not to bring down the mood or anything... but all that stuff, however worthless is actually is, really means a lot to me which is why I keep it :)

14. Lady Gaga
Ok.. she had to make the list. But there are a number of reasons! It was when I was coming home from Barcelona on a school tour that I first heard Poker Face, and it was there that the love blossomed. When I was out shopping one day, I bought The Fame; her first album. This was a major turning point in my teenage life because up until then, I never owned a CD or cared much for music. Yes, I did like the album and Gaga's music, but what's more is I started to listen to more music. That's where my love for music began! Yes, it's lame.. but I don't care :P Also, my first concert was a Lady Gaga concert! Another first, courtesy of Gaga. There's also her album Born This Way. I remember one morning singing along to Americano and... well. I'll say no more but that album was a significant factor in my life at the time :) So yeah, while I love this woman, she means more to me than she'll ever know and that's why she's on this list.

15. Cooking
By cooking, I mean food prep in general. Anyway, being a college student I do a lot more cooking at college than I do at home. I always made my own food at home before going to college so it wasn't a big thing to take on when I went to Cork. Since I moved for college, I started eating so many more foods. Mostly because I can control what I put in to my dinners and meals. Tesco has become one of my best friends :D So yeah, the reason I like cooking and baking and all that is because it's productive, creative and best of all, I get an awesome treat after it! Another thing I love about it is it's a great skill to have. Plus, who doesn't love getting free cupcakes, scones and whatever else I make :P

16. Yu-gi-oh!
I remember the first time I bought a deck of cards... I got the deck in a small toy shop in Charleville and my brother got a pack too. That was when I started watching the TV show. Since that day, I followed the TV show and bought hundreds of cards. As we speak, I'm rewatching season one... my god how cringey that show was! But the card game was so much fun. I have tonnes of cards upon my shelf. I have loads of decks - ones I bought and ones I made up. Although I do love this game, I am gonna sell the cards if I can... because I don't use them and they'd be better off with someone who will use them. Oh! I forgot, I have some DS games. Now, they are great games (in my opinion) as you can get any card you like in-game and play with so many different strategies. For those of you who don't know what Yu-gi-oh! is, it's a card game full of strategy which is the reason I love it! By the way, look what I got a few years ago!

The Three Egyptian God Cards

Normally, I would upload a picture of my own ones but my SD card is otherwise occupied so I can't take a photo. When I can, I'll upload a pic for you all :)

17. Minecraft
How long would it be before I mention Minecraft? :P Well here it is, finally on the list. Why do I love Minecraft? Because you start with nothing and build a life for yourself. You build according to your needs and then after that, do whatever the hell you like :D I love it so much because it's your own creativity and imagination that helps you through the game. It's a great pastime too of you have time to kill. I can't say much more about it, but as you should know, I'm always talking about Minecraft so expect to see more in future posts.

18. Malteasers
I couldn't leave these out... I'm not gonna say much except that Malteasers are my favourite sweet. I don't know if it's the chocolate or the centre... but they're delicious. I don't really buy them though unless they're on offer in Tesco, but when I do, they very rarely last!

19. College
What can I say... college is just fantastic. I can't say enough about how great it is! To be quite honest, I didn't appreciate college when I was in first year. But since then, I've met some brilliant people and become involved in so many societies and committees. I'm going into my 4th year this September and once that's finished, I don't know what to do with myself... I'm going to be so lost without college. I'm still not sure whether I'll do another course after I finish Financial Maths or if I'll go job hunting. Sure, I've another while to think about that properly. Here's a few things I've been involved in while at college; Peer Support Leading, Class Rep, College Council, LGBT Society, Chinese Society and Academic Tutor. I've made some amazing friends and memories here at college, and I'll miss it when I'm gone.

20. Pikmin
My god... I love these things!! I started playing the second game in the series last night. I had played a tiny bit before but our Nintendo Wii broke :/ However, my cousins brought over their Wii so I can play it whenever I want. Why are Pikmin on my list? Well... for anyone who hasn't played the games, it's really hard to explain. But each colour Pikmin has a different ability; red are fire resistant, blue are water resistant, yellow have electrical resistance, purple are big and heavy and white are immune to poison. I have looked up getting plush toys of the Pikmin but they're very expensive :/ Below is a pic of the type of plushies I'd like to get.

Pikmin Plush Dolls

The Pikmin act as your personal army - they fight enemies, gather items and perform tasks together. Perhaps the cutest thing about them is that they sing! And their songs gets better when your army is full of different colours.

21. Music
And finally, we have music. I mentioned above how I didn't get into music until I bought The Fame. Since then, music has been an integral part of my life. Most recently, I've been listening to Paloma Faith and Marina and The Diamonds. And I'm really looking forward to Lady Gaga's new album - Artpop! When I came back to Ireland last September after working in Devon, I started saving money to buy an iPod. Yes, I know... I'm a few years behind. But to be fair, I never had a reason to own one. Around Christmas time, I actually bought one. I'm so glad I did because not only could I listen to music, I used it to watch Doctor Who. It was great to have on my trips home from college. I didn't really explain why music is one of my favourite things... but it's too hard to explain. It makes me feel good :) I'll leave it at that.

And there we go. 21 of my favourite things! I hope you enjoyed those last two posts :) I'll be back soon guys and gals!

21 Years of Procrastination and Awesomeness - Part 1

21! That's the number you get when you multiply 7 by 3. Or when you divide 168 by 8. Or by doing this... (15-8) x (7-2 x (6/3)). It's also the number of years I've been on this lovely planet. So this is gonna be a very special blog post ^_^ I'm gonna talk about my 21 favourite things! Well... I'll talk about the first 11 here and the final 10 in part 2. Most of them will be obvious... others, I hope are not. Either way, let's get down to business (by the way, this is in no particular order in case anyone was wondering)

1. Pokémon
Now this is an obvious one! Ever since I was a little boy and Santa brought me a brand new purple Gameboy Colour and Pokémon Yellow, I've been hooked. That was.. like... 13 years ago! So I shudder to think the amount of hours I've put into this franchise. Guaranteed I'll be putting a few hundred more into the upcoming Pokémon X ^_^ But why do I love it so much? I really can't pinpoint a single overall reason... but a few would be: the underlying mathematics of training; some amazing Pokémon like Skarmory and Weavile; the will to become the BEST POKÉMON TRAINER IN THE WORLD!!! :P However... this is another new reason that stands out from all the rest. And here it is...

The Pokémon Drinking Game

I found this earlier this week on this website. I actually planned to play this game last Saturday night at my party, but we were all having too much fun. This game is just pure genius... So kudos to the creator :D Oh! And as you all should know, I treated myself to some Pokémon merchandise late last year - the first 8 gym badges! They're such a nice thing to own! Also... I saw this lately and thought you might like it.

Real Pokémon Daycare

2. Digimon
Digimon is yet another childhood guilty pleasure. I hear that people say that Digimon is a rip-off of Pokémon and it's not as good... Well, the TV show was leagues above Pokémon however the games were miles behind. This is my opinion anyway. I still love playing Digimon Rumble Arena 2 on the PS2 because that was a fantastic game. Still one of the best fighting games I've ever played. Oh! Almost forgot about the Digivices. I've been playing with them for years and they're fantastic... they're like pedometers in that you have to walk so many steps to get to bosses. So I'd never leave the house without one. Ah they were some good times. I had one digivice from each season up to 4, but my favourite was #1. Oh! how could I forget. I also still have a stuffed Agumon! He was 5 pounds in Heatons when I got him. I used to carry him around with my Digivice so he could fight and Digivolve! :D I know what you're all thinking but I don't care :P

My Agumon

Gen #1 Digivice

3. Cats
Who doesn't love cats? As you should know, I am an avid cat lover. My phone's memory is full of pictures of my cats (with a few videos too). Spot is my baby. She was born here on May 3rd 2002 and we've had her ever since. Here's a photo of the little darling :D

Look At Her Being All Pretty

I think my love for cats came from growing up in a home filled with them. Even as I type, Spot is on my desk cleaning herself. By the way, I bet you can't guess why I named her Spot :P As for cats in general... we all know how the internet is 99% cat pictures. All the more reason to love the little buggers :3 Always getting into mischief!

4. Dragons
Now this may be a new one for you. But I have an unhealthy obsession with dragons. I don't know where it stemmed from but it's there. Ok, it's really not that bad but I do love these mystical creatures. I have a few dragon ornaments in my room that I've collected over the years. Not to mention my books on Dragonology. I guess I like these beasts because they're all like RAWR and powerful and shoot fire and stuff. Plus, they're all like "They ain't your jewels *fire breath*". Now I'm not some crazy dragon man, but if I could own dragons... Then I would! Here's one of my dragon ornaments made from compressed wood :)

RAWR

5. Lego
Everyone has played with Lego at some point. And I used to be fascinated by the stuff! Although right now, I don't have any Lego :( I would get more and play with it, except it's gone so darn expensive nowadays :/ But. That's not to say I still don't love the stuff! Back in '98 (or near abouts) when there was no electricty for Christmas because of a storm, that's when I got my first Lego set. And a few years later, my mom gave me her old Lego set (some water mobile my dad got her once). After dismantling the water mobile thingy, I made several aircrafts until I had a huge fleet! I built on this for months and had a very cool collection. But now they're hidden away somewhere in a box... Still. Lego is still one of my top favourite things and I will make sure that my kids get to play with some! If I knew exactly where my fleet was kept, I'd upload a picture but unfortunately, it's been so long that I forgot. :(

6. Doctor Who
Now this is a new one. How new? Well. I've known about the reboot of the show for YEARS but I never watched it or got into it. Until this April. Over the course of study month and exam month, I got through about 3 seasons but I finished seasons 4-7 within two weeks of getting my summer holidays. And I'm so happy I did finally watch it! One of my favourite TV shows of all time. It'll be something to show my kids (and they'd better appreciate it!). Sci-fi is my sort of thing and the whole time travel malarkey is the icing on top for me. Plus, it has some of the best characters ever! Rose. Donna. And of course... River Song! I'd say more but... well just look at the video :D

Since it's my 21st birthday, I wanted to get some collectables so I looked up some Dr Who stuff. It's all pretty expensive but I went and got THIS!

Exploding Tardis

It's currently sitting upon my wall :D For those of you who know what this is, I bet you're jelly :P For those of you who don't, watch the video above again :D Needless to say, I'm very excited for the 50th Anniversary Special!

7. Desperate Housewives
I swear, this is the last TV show I mention. But golly.. I must say how much I adore this TV show. Funny enough, my mom started watching it from day one. The first episode I saw was the season one finale and I instantly fell in love! Ever since then I've followed the show up until the end of season 8, when the show ended. I was so mad about this show that I dedicated a huge portion of my website to it! A website that never made it to the internet (thank god!)... I was young, at a computer summer camp and we all designed websites. I still have all the files from that website :) I was obsessed! Again, some of the best characters on TV were on this show (imo) as well as some fantastic story-lines. This show defined my teenage years... which really does not say much about me.. does it?

Defining Quote Of The Show

8. Harry Potter
Here's another one that defined my teenage years! Unlike a lot of people I know, I read the books long before the movies came out. I think I had one and two read when I heard the first movie was coming out. I THINK. I was so young that I forget. But I do remember that my Nana bought me books 5, 6 and 7 each time they came out. My god... what a wondrous franchise. And yes, the books are much better than the films! This franchise picks on my love of the weird and magical. The characters were so loveable and the story was brilliant. This is yet another thing my kids will get as part of their childhood! As I was saying about collectables, I wanted to buy both a replica wand and a time turner. Unfortunately, the website I wanted to buy from only delivered within the US... I did buy the wand from amazon in the end, but I left the time turner. While it's such a cool little device, it cost way too much to justify getting it. So now, I have this just added to my collection...

The Elder Wand

9. Craft
So this is a strange one. By craft, I mean making stuff. For example, I made a cross-stitch picture for my Junior Cert. I've made gloves in the past using crochet. Currently, I'm making a latch-hook rug. I haven't done much in the way of actually following any of these skills through to a hobbie but I do like making things. With crochet, I really didn't give it enough time. However, cross-stitch is something I would like to continue in the future. It's very simple to do, it looks great and with a good pattern, you can really do amazing things! Here's a photo of my cross-stitch picture.

My Magic Teddy Bear

I have it hanging in my room; I really do like it. I got the design from a childrens colouring book. I'm very bad at my time management when it comes to hobbies but I do wish to make more in the future. It's very relaxing and really helps with your creativity :D

10. Photography
Now, this one... I do love taking photographs. But I am in no way a professional photographer or will I ever claim to be. I just love how photos capture the moment and by looking at them, they help you to relive the moment. As you can tell, I love adding photos to my blog. I believe that they enrich the words I write. Another thing I love about photographs is that they're going to be a great to have and show to my children and children's children (as long as I don't lose them). Just so you know, I have about 44GB of photos from the last three years... so yeah, I'm a bit mad when it comes to using the camera. But why should it matter whether there's 4 photos or 44GB of them... each one is a precious memory in it's own right :)

11. Video Games
This one had to make the list. By video games, I mean Xbox, Nintendo DS, games on Facebook, games on my phone... anything like that! Some of my top favourite video games would be Pokémon, Dragon Age, Marvel: Avengers Alliance, League Of Legends, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, Mario Kart... the list goes on really. I've spent hundreds... probably thousands of hours playing games. I'm sure some of you know what that's like, right? I find that these games are a brilliant medium for so many different things... They tell amazing stories; they build up fantastic characters that the world loves; they can be endlessly educational; but ultimately, they're fun! Personally, what I like about games is that they make you think. I can't think of any game I like where thinking and planning strategy isn't a requirement. All of the aforementioned games cover that. I guess when I REALLY think about it... problem solving is at the core and as a maths student, that's what I like to do - solve problems :)

Well... there's the first 11 of 21. I'll come back soon with the next 10. What a long post this was but I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. I'll be back with part two before the month is out :) Bye!

Some New Timesinks (Part 2)

Howdy! It's time for an update on more timesinks.

1. Minecraft (Part 2)
Ah... back to the ol' Minecraft. Since I mentioned Minecraft in my last timesinks post, I've built many many things. I made a new Chickenator 5000, a wheat farm, pig and sheep farms, an experience farm (in the form of a zombie spawner), a slime spawner (also works great for exp) and a stone machine. Oh, not to mention my Zombie Pigmen deathtrap. It still needs some tweaks but it works :D I've drifted from Minecraft lately because I've run out of ideas... however, once a spark of inspiration hits me, I'll return to it. Here are some pics for your enjoyment!

My Minecraft Island

From left to right, you can see my brick house, a melon and pumpkin farm, my doorway to my Nether Room  and then finally, my Chickenator 5000. In my Nether Room, I have my Nether Portal as well as some Soulsand with Nether Wart growing on it. At the base of my Chickenator 5000, I have a hopper which collects the eggs that fall down into it. It's also a good way to get exp; hatching extra eggs and letting them grow to chickens to harvest for meat and feathers.

My Stone Machine

As the caption says, this is my stone machine. Using the fact that when lava hits water, they make stone, I was able to make this machine. Press the button and the pistons at the back push two blocks of stone out thus creating space for new stone blocks to form. It was particularly helpful for harvesting cobblestone for my Zombie Pigmen deathtrap.

My Wheat Farm

Using a sticky piston to hold back water, when I activate this contraption, the piston moves a cobblestone block and water flows down, pushing the wheat down into a stream towards a hopper. As the land stays hoed, it's easy to just replant wheat and let it grow. Very little effort involved here :)

2. Marvel Avengers Alliance
Well... I started playing this game at the end of May (during my last week of exams). It's a Facebook game I got into because a friend of mine (Brian) had been playing it for about a year! And now I'm hooked as well. In the game, you recruit Marvel superheroes to complete missions, fight players and level up your heroes. I easily put in about 2, if not more, hours a day into this game. And, I'm powering through it. I'm already level 61, which is crazy! Especially considering Brian is about level 109 (I think). It's a game that's really up my alley because of the hero recruitment system and leveling system.

My Heroes

These are the eleven heroes I currently own. You get Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye for free at the start, you get a choice of a free hero around level 4/5 (I picked Ms Marvel) and the rest I bought... apart from Constrictor and Wonder Man. I unlocked Constrictor through the lockbox system and Wonder Man through the Spec Ops mission. This would make more sense if you played the game, but there are loads of ways to recruit heroes. And some heroes have alternative costumes with special abilities. I'm crazy about this game.. It's scary!

3. Dragon Quest IX : Sentinels of the Starry Sky
Right, so this is an old one. I got this game a few years ago and played it for about 20 hours. And then drifted away from it. I once again got back to it, but started a new file and did 30 hours. Again, I drifted from that file :/ But now, I started a new file which I will finish. I haven't done that much in it yet but I am looking forward to playing more. Once I get to the point where I can recruit heroes, I'll really get into it. My main character is a Minstrel - the all-rounded character. I don't have a choice with that. And I will recruit a Priest - the healer of the team. But apart from that, I'm not sure what to pick, but my final two characters will round out the team nicely. Once my characters get to roughly level 20, I'll have reached a story point where I can change my vocation (specialty). This is especially helpful because each character has weapons trees that can make you learn new skills and such, so if a single character has two vocations with an overlapping weapon tree, it can be leveled up faster.

And while I write about these new timesinks, I can't help but realize that it's taking time away from me actually spending time on these games...So it's time to go! Until the next time ^_^

*Insert Original Title Here*

'Ello 'ello 'ello! How are all my lovely readers? Summer is here and it's the time for late nights and sleep ins. Well... for me anyway!

Just a few updates for you. Yes, I'm on summer holidays currently. With no job plans. Woe is me :( Ah, I don't really care. More time to spend bettering myself :P As you may know from reading previous posts, I started watching Doctor Who about 2-3 months ago. I just finished season 7 there a few days ago, now it's time to wait for the 50th Anniversary Special due on November 23rd this year. Woo!! I enjoyed it so very much and would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Although, I think it requires a special kind of taste. But it has some of the best TV characters I've ever seen ^_^

My next stop on the TV train is How I Met Your Mother. I have seen a good lot of episodes but it is something I want to watch from the start. I'll get started on it perhaps next week once my bedroom is cleared out. I've so much crap in there, it's crazy.

Guess what I bought? A 3DS XL :D It's so awesome!! I got Super Mario Bros. 2 free with it from Amazon. I also got a demo of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, which I completed fairly fast so I bought the full game. Yeah it was expensive enough... but, I did save about 60 euro on the 3DS XL when I got it :P Plus, I've loved the previous Mystery Dungeon games, and this one is in 3D!!! :D

I also started a new file in Pokémon Heartgold... because I've never completed the story in that game. Currently, I'm in the Rocket Hideout in Mahogany Town and I have Quilava, Heracross, Slowpoke, Magnemite and Skiploom. My 6th Pokémon is going to be Swinub and I'll catch one in the ice cave. Once I've Heartgold finished, I'll probably jump back to Black 2 and finish my Eevee party. And on October 12th, I'll be getting Pokémon X! Cannot wait for that ^_^

That's about the extent of my summer... pretty boring really but at least I'll be well rested for 4th year of college. Woo!!

Talk soon guys and gals

Root 3

I fear that I will always be
A lonely number like root three
A three is all that's good and right
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath a vicious square-root sign?
I wish instead I were a nine
For nine could thwart this evil trick
With just some quick arithmetic
I know I'll never see the sun
As 1.7321

Such is my reality
A sad irrationality
When, hark, just what is this I see?
Another square root of a three
Has quietly come waltzing by
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer
Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
And with a wave of magic wands
Our square-root signs become unglued
And love for me had been renewed

Some Random Pics

QR 1
QR 2
Hey hey! Just a quick post with some random photos I have to showcase.

As you can see, the above two are QR codes. If you have a QR code reader, I'd suggest give them a go ;) Hopefully, you'll be satisfied with one and annoyed by the other (provided the codes work!) :P

The next photo is one of Facebook's tagging fails. I was uploading some photos to Facebook, and a big group of pictures of my friend Roy came up for me to tag. However, if you look close enough, you'll see that one of those 9 is a little different. One of them is me! I've learnt that Me + Glasses = Roy. Facebook says so!

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... 8 Roys and a Kieran

Violating Lucario Is Never A Good Idea
Suicune, I Choose You!
Here are two screenshots from Super Smash Bros. Brawl that I got a few years ago. Lucario is my favourite character to play as, by the way. In the first, you'll see that Lucario is being violated by Marth, from Fire Emblem. What I love about this photo is Lucario's face... because I'm sure that the game isn't programmed to make characters look shocked when they're being molested.

In the photo underneath, you'll see Lucario summoning a Suicune. I was delighted to get this photo because if it was any other Pokémon, it probably wouldn't be as classy. Could you imagine if Lucario summoned a Goldeen?!

So there you go, sweet and short! Talk soon!

Summertime Plans

Between studying, exams and gaming, I try to plan what I'll do for the summer. For most of the year, I had one plan in mind; my ideal summer is me working in Dublin with a financial services firm. But over the last few weeks, hopes of that are fading away so I must find new ways to fill my empty summer.

I do have one definite thing this summer - my 21st. I don't know where to have it, I don't know who will come, I don't know what I'll do for it... but I'll have something. And it'll be big because I didn't celebrate my birthday last year with my friends and family in Ireland.

I also have something else... TICKETS TO KE$HA :D Brian and I bought tickets to see Ke$ha live in The Marquee in Cork. That's on July 3rd so I can't wait for that :D However, if between now and then, I get a job in Dublin, I probably won't be able to go to the concert :( But either way, I'm going to enjoy July 3rd. As for the rest of summer??

In primary school, I started collecting Yu-gi-oh! cards. Over the years, I collected a couple of hundred. Possibly a few thousand if I was to actually count them. Over the last few summers, I've been threatening to sort them and sell them. They're in really good condition and I have some rare and powerful ones too. I have no use for them anymore and they're just sitting there doing nothing when they could be bringing some little Yu-gi-oh! fan some joy. So hopefully, I'll finally get onto that this summer and hopefully I can sell them through my blog :D Wouldn't that be awesome?! :D

I also would like to get started on a new project if possible... A cross-stitch picture. I made one for my Junior Cert and it was so much fun to do, so simple to make. When I have further updates on this, I'll post about it. Maybe some photos and such :P

The next thing I'd like to do is learn piano!! I've been wanting to do this for YEARS but never forced myself to put the time into it. The summer days would be perfect for it. I'm gonna try learn on my own and see how far I get and then, get lessons when I need them later on. I have a book to learn from so at least I have a course to follow :)

As I did last year, I plan to watch LOADS of tv shows. This summer, it'll probably consist of Doctor Who, American Dad, How I Met Your Mother, Torchwood, Firefly, One Foot In The Grave and some others that I can't quite remember right now. On top of tv shows, it'd be great to complete some Xbox games as well. I do wish we had a PS3, for many reasons, but I shouldn't complain seeing as we got the Xbox for free :D My mom won it in a competition a few years back. It was a joyous occasion ^_^

Back to the topic at hand... summer plans :) There are two other things I'd like to start this summer. One of them is game programming. I'm currently doing a module in C programming and I've heard it's a great start for someone who wants to program games. I would like to look into this more and see what I could get into. Who knows? It could be my calling :D The other out-of-character thing I'd like to get into is story writing. I'm not sure exactly what kind of stories...something magic-based... or sci-fi...or whatever. Something I could build on. Right now, I have no ideas but once my exams are over I can get started on something... maybe.. We'll see. One step at a time :)

I think I've covered most of what I hope to do over summer. Have you made any plans for summer? If not, I'd suggest thinking of a few things because the holidays are creeping up slowly.

But, not everyone needs plans so don't let me dictate what you should do. After all, who am I but a random voice on the internet.

Some New Timesinks

Hello! Hello! Hello! Today, I decided to ramble about some games that I've been putting my time into. And yes, I know... I didn't post on my blog's anniversary... Bad Kieran!!

1. Gemcraft
Now.. I've played Gemcraft before. Gemcraft Labyrinth to be precise. I actually beat it! But recently when I went back to the game, I found that my save file was gone :O

Battle Stats
It was at that point I realised that I couldn't just leave the game where it was so I started playing it again. About halfway through the game, I decided to try and beat Unlimited Mode (catch 22?). I never did lose my ability to play the game so I had a lot of experience to start with. I played Unlimited Mode with Only Giant Monsters and Quadruple Monsters on, so that my experience multiplier would be high.

YOL Gem

After 6 grueling hours... I finally beat it! My tactic - I made a Yellow-Orange-Lime gem (with equal components). For those of you who don't know Gemcraft at all, yellow gems do multiple damage, orange inflict mana drain on enemies and lime is multiple hits. So combining the three gives you a pretty amazing gem! I made three of these and places one at each entry point of the map. By the time my gems reached level 16 or so, I continued leveling them up with just yellow gems to that the cost was lower and so the multiple damage percentage would increase faster.

Final Result
This is probably going over your heads if you don't know the game. Sorry! As I beat the 1337th wave, I took screenshots... You probably can't see the pics unless you open them in new tabs. But the gems I had at the end had between 29541-111028 Damage plus 100% Chance To Deal 451x Damage, 100% Chance to Hit 23 Targets and 41.9*35.7 Mana Gain Per Hit. Over the 1337 waves, I dealt 36,127,283,765,148 damage to enemies! That's 36 trillion damage!!! :O

As you can tell, I love my numbers ^_^ And I love Gemcraft!!

2. Minecraft
Ah the lovely Minecraft... I got back into this game about 5 days ago. But I haven't sunk as much time into this yet as I normally do. I did find a fantastic world though (the seed is -7783329577781891563). You spawn in a field with loads of sheep. There's a desert nearby, as well as some marshland. There's a Village on the edge of the desert with 3-4 houses and wheat, carrot and potato farms. There's also a ravine very close to the spawn point too!! This is all I've found so far, and I've just started to build my house up properly. So there's so much more to discover. If you're looking for a Minecraft seed to try, give this one a go and let me know how you get on :D

As of yet, I don't have any screenshots because I have nothing really done in the world.. Right now I'm constructing a house with a storage basement underneath and farm nearby. It'll be a lot of work because of the supplies I need to get such as wood (why are there different colours of wood now??). But be warned, there will be screenshots in the future ^_^

3. The World Ends With You
Have you heard of this game? It's a Nintendo DS game. I started playing this in my first year of college on my r4 but never finished it. I bought the game a couple of weeks back and it finally arrived last weekend. I loved the concept of the game - combat takes place on both screen of the Nintendo DS. You play with pins which have different abilities (psychs) and your partner has their own abilities. You fight 'Noise' and try to win a 'game' that you're in that takes place over 7 days. On each day, you have to complete a mission or else you face being 'erased by the noise' which means game over!! I can't really explain it anymore, but it's fantastic!

It has a brilliant story, and great replay value (so I'm told, because I haven't beaten it yet). The combat is hard to master but is really great when you get into it. The pins you play with can evolve into stronger pins. Some can't evolve but those that can can evolve through different types of experience. Here's the pin evolution chart if you ever need it... It has all the pin evolutions on it so it's a players bread and butter ^_^ If you ever get a chance to play the game, do play it! It's a bit old at this stage but it's a fantastic game. I doubt you'll regret playing it.

Pin Evolution Chart

So between these three games, my study month is going out the window. Exams are starting on May 1st :O That's next Wednesday :/ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Time for some TWEWY :P
Buh bye :)
